The 2014 ESPYS, hosted by Drake, proved to be a night full of celebration and recognition of the major sports achievements and moments in the sports world over the past year. Including the ESPN2 simulcast, The 2014 ESPYSdelivered a 1.6 HH US Rtg and brought in both higher HH and M18-34 US ratings as well as HH and P2+ impressions when compared to last year’s telecast on ESPN, according to Nielsen.
With ESPN and ESPN2 combined, the network saw a 31% increase in M18-34 US ratings (2.1 M18-34 US Rtg), a 13% increase in HH impressions (1,921,000) and a 13% increase in viewers P2+ (2,550,000) versus 2013.
Highlights of the night included Stuart Scott’s Jimmy V Award Perseverance Award speech as well as Michael Sam accepting the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
Drake kicked off the show with a crowd-pleasing monologue that put a comedic spin on some the biggest sports stories of the year. Other skits included a Drake/Blake Griffin rivalry parody and an impression of Manny Pacquiao singing the Disney hit “Let it Go.”
