So I've heard plenty of stories where a champion will say "nah I'm not dropping the belt to him."
But I've always been confused cause how can a champ tell his boss what he's going to do with the boss's title?
Is it cause they try to avoid Montreal Screwjob situations?
Explain to me like im 5

Some have that in their contracts..Bret Hart did not have to lose to Shawn Michaels if he didnt want to. He wanted to drop the title next night...McMahon in his paranoid state during losing the ratings war, for some odd reason, believed that Bret Hart, a loyal WWE star they built up, was gonna take the belt and do what Medusa did and wouldnt keep to his word. So he betrayed Bret, the business, and basically vilified himself from that point forward.
Creative control is gone in the WWE..the Rock though? When he returns? He just does what he wants because he dont work for them and they'll never complain to him. He called CM Punk a couple of years ago LIVE and gave no fukks. He put some fans on camera rocking Macho Man and Undertaker that WWE security tried to silence and no one backstage wouldnt say shyt to him...Vince included. It's funny when you think about it.

they believe the talent that is their next challenger is below them

word to lacey evans & early triple H

Nah i get that part, but if the promoter wants you to do it don't you basically have to? I mean he makes up the storylines he makes up the vision of where he wants it to go.

if the promoter puts it in the wrestler's contract...he brought it on himself..vince brought all the events in question on himself

bret is not the first nor the last wrestler to veto a title drop

Back in the day some wrestlers had enough creative control on his contracts were they could veto a title change. But those were VERY rare occasions.

It's all about professionalism to be honest. The promoter gives you the confidence to have a belt, he's trusting in you to be a pro and do what he says. But if you don't want to, you can do a bunch of shyt with the title. You can literally take your shyt and leave - Brock Lesnar did that do New Japan in the mid 00's -, you can politic your way to convince your promoter that dropping the belt "isn't the best/smartest idea" (the Kliq had a PhD on this method) or you can force your promoter to strip you of the title or, like in the old days, send you a goon and either try to shoot on you in a match or intimidate you.

The belt is yours responsibility once you have it. The promoter has a vision but he's trusting you to follow it, if you don't wanna, then a bunch of fukkery might happen.

basically this

Hogan did it against Bret
Stone Cold did it against HHH
HBK did it twice but used injury excuses instead

:yeshrug:

Nah HBK just lost his smile. That's a valid excuse

shyt Ric flair took the NWA belt to WWF because when they fired him, they didnt return the 25K deposit they required all champs to pay during their reign..another example of promoters bringing it on themselves

Imagine having such a severe disorder that you find a way to shoehorn antecdotes about the rock in a thread that has absolutely no need for them.
