Family decided to put the dog to sleep

The dog has been sick for at least 4 months. Vets that saw her 4 months ago pretty much said that nothing can be done for her now, and to only contact them again if we are ready for putting her down. So, the question here is "how do I console my brother?", who pretty much was the main caretaker of this dog for 15 years? We are both adults now, but still this damn dog was like his daughter. Any suggestions? Its going to be a rough couple of weeks for him. I expect alot of jokes and puns, as is the Coli way, but as long as there are a few posts here that hold merit, then I'm cool with that.

I'm sorry. I've gone through this more than once. Just show extra compassion and understanding. A new puppy (if you have another dog, even) a few days later would help the transition, though you can obviously never replace them, it does help the healing (and brings a positive spin, a net pet gets a great home behind a tragic situation).

I had to put my dog to sleep two years ago I thought I could handle it, but when I got home I took one look at his dog bowl and lost it. I cried like baby that night but I took solace in the fact he wasn't suffering anymore.

Worked at an animal shelter for like 5 months.
So I saw shyt like this everyday. Had me everytime.
I'd have to excuse myself to the bathroom and let it all out.

Started lying and said I had cat allergies so they wouldn't think I was a bytch.


The way the life instantly faded from their eyes and how their muscles lost all tension was too much.
