Nas held his own for sure, but I think g rap had the better verse. Not only was his verse more technical, but his delivery and flow is much more captivating than nas's part. Nas was a little too laid back (and not even in a rakim smooth type way), and it just wasn't as interesting as g raps verse. In fact when I go back to that track, I mainly go back for g raps verse.

nas definatley had a great verse and it wasn't a clear renegade since the verses themselves were not that far off.

Honestly, this song proves that Nas had already surpassed Kool G in every way, especially voice/delivery

Maybe in voice, but not in delivery. The song definitely served as a pass a torch type moment, however I still think g raps verse is superior. But its not like g rap completely out shined him with a verse that was 10x better. It was pretty even if you compare the verses themselves and I just think g raps verse wins by a little. Plus his delivery and flow, is just more enjoyable than nas's non-charismatic laid back delivery.

Both top 5 OAT tho.

Both styles on this complimented each other so well..Both killed it but I think Nas's verses were better. He perfected that mafioso/crime rap style on this song. Nas is 95 was on a whole nother level

Nah, Kool G Rap (the Godfather of rap), Raekwon, and Jay Z perfected the mafioso criminal themed raps before nas. Nas really hopped on the bandwagon in 96 with IWW, to follow the influx of soo many mafioso rap albums being released at the time
g rap is the godfather is hardcore rap on the east coast point blank then raekwon but all the other ones like nas jay-z biggie and whoever else came after g rap and raekwon.

G rap definitely originated the style (and many other styles too) but Nas was doing this shyt before Jay-Z..Nas's verse on eye for an eye was on the mafioso tip too and that was early 95.
Crazy just how dope this song is though, Nas was like 21/22 when he wrote this

Well, of course nas had a mafioso verse on a very mafioso album. Of course nas had mafioso shyt (especially since g rap was one of his biggest influences), but it wasn't as prevelant as it was on IWW. Plus he made IWW after the majority of major mafioso albums had already came out
