First verse on "NY State of Mind". The crazy imagery "I ran like a cheetah with thoughts of an asssassin", "I'm like Scarface sniffin cocaine" to "It drops deep as it does in my breath, I never sleep because sleep is the cousin of death".

so if chief keef said "Im like scarface snffin cocaine" - you would call him lyrical?

never really liked illmatic nas for the lyrics. his flow was dope but he got way better on his next LP.

Third verse, One Love. The greatest story in rap, to me. One scene/encounter, described perfectly from beginning, middle to end.

One thing tho. I know "oo-wops" is a type of blunt (2 rolled up) but I am the only person who thought the kid was called that because he shot the wrong person? As in "oops I made a mistake"

first verse of Memory Lane :wow:

I reminisce on park jams, my man was shot for his sheep coat
Childhood lesson make me see him drop in my weed smoke
It's real, grew up in trife life, did times or white lines
The hype vice, murderous night times, and knife fights invite crimes

You might be confusing 2 different words "oo-wop" is the 2 blunts, also slang for an uzi (Tribe Called Quest Mr. nikka "my lips is like an oo-wop when i start to spray it")

Nas calls the kid "Shorty Doo Wop" which is just a generic nickname for any kid, not actually the kids name

Yea but remember the next line is "in the bridge we call him oo-ops"

So I comes back home, nobody's out but Shorty Doo-Wop
Rollin' two phillies together: in the Bridge we call 'em oo-wops

It almost seems like a double entendre to me. Yea he's referring to two blunts rolled together, but I also hear it like "that kid accidentally shot the wrong person, so we call him oo-wops (oops)." Maybe I'm bugging lol

Every verse. Nas on Illmatic is the most technically flawless rap performance of all time.
