How? Only former slaves and their children were Freedmen. And it wasn't a formal status like "Indians" are because that term shows up in the constitution. Native American tribes have sovereign nation status. Cacs deliberately excluded the word "slave" from our constitution.They weren't even considered citizens until the US amended the constitution to give all of us citizenship status. .

Those of us born after the 13th amendment are protected from government discrimination. We're Americans according to Uncle Sam and we are legally no different than our paler countrymen. The Freedmen route will probably work, at the state level, if we could accurately define what a modern Freedmen is but, you run into race discussions again. There are cacs running around who are descendants of Freedmen and slave owners.

Plus some of our ancestors never got to be Freedmen before the 13th

Do any of these advocates try to argue for using the failure of the Freedmen's Bureau as a foundation for reparations? The Bureau was created with the intent to provide newly freed African Americans with the support they needed to transition to freedom. It was necessities like food, land, education, healthcare, and so on. But it was sabotaged by Southern Democrats and Andrew Johnson, which led to the Bureau failing to achieve its goals. The long-term effects of those broken promises still linger on today. And given that this was a federal promise that was never fulfilled, could the historical context of the bureau serve as a basis for reparations today?

Things like the Freedman's Beareau and Bank. It's clearly the best path along with lineage based programs, but they keep doing stupid shyt because they're controlled opposition and not serious, just trying to lull Black people back to sleep.
