In a landmark move that could change the local news landscape, the Federal Communications Commission Tuesday eliminated a 78-year-old rule that requires broadcasters to maintain studios in the areas that they serve. Matt Yurus reports.

I thought some news stations already operated from metro areas.

I remember this being one of the selling points for a station when I was growing up. "Getting local news, from an actual local station" or something close to that was their motto.

I think this is corny if broadcasters do away with this, but what do I know.
