You people who are saying "more tax dollars wasted" are missing the point. He tampered with and intimidated witnesses. Those steroid hearings and cases were mostly bullshyt with no hard evidence. We got testimony from witnesses, and Armstrong's interview with Oprah, that can show Armstrong did those things. He should have gone to prison for the last investigation before politics killed that one, and he should here too.
It's like abortion, man. The same people who froth at the mouth for "justice" suddenly realize how impractical obstinate adherence to moral indignation is. Always convenient, always right on time, and always when it hits too close to home.

Obstruction of justice is serious business. You do not want people thinking they can avoid criminal charges by tampering with evidence and witnesses. You can't just look at the cost without understanding the importance of deterring such behavior. The criminal justice system would fall apart otherwise (and don't bother making hyperbolic claims about how horrible the american criminal justice system is right now).
