I'm assuming he took the tax evasion deal in exchange for not getting hemmed up for the copyright shyt.
He had something like 50 charges and if I remember correctly only 2 of them were copyright related. That’s how ruthless the feds are. If they can’t get you on what they want, they’ll just watch and follow you and rack up so many charges on something else.
His lawyer likely told him if you don’t plead guilty to all charges they’ll just throw the book at you with the tax evasion and fraud charges. Either way he’s screwed
At least by pleading guilty he’ll probably get the minimums
