"A 24-year-old mother was charged with first degree murder and child abuse for allegedly killing her newborn baby who died on Christmas Eve.
My Fox Detroit says Angela Alexie gave birth to her baby boy two days before Christmas last month. The baby was born inside a garage and actually was able to stay alive for at least 48 hours as Alexie allegedly would go out and check on the baby. But on Christmas Eve, according to reports, the newborn passed away.
The little boy was dead in the garage for more than two weeks until Alexie allegedly built up the nerve to put him in a recycling bin. That bin, according to My Fox Detroit, was picked up on Jan. 13. It didn’t take long, less than 24 hours later, for his body to be discovered by workers at the facility.
The newborn was not Alexie’s only child. Reports indicate she has three other children all under the age of four, but they do not live with her because they were taken away by Child Protective Services. According to what Alexie told a judge she not only doesn’t have a place to live, but she has never worked and has no idea how to even pay bills.
Police began to put two and two together after tips came in because of Alexie’s inconsistent stories. People apparently knew she was pregnant, but she reportedly made up different stories about losing the baby, about having a miscarriage or giving the child up for adoption.
Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said, “This baby must have suffered greatly over that very short time period.” My Fox Detroit says a local funeral home and cemetery have stepped up to the plate to give the newborn a proper burial and place to rest.
Alexie at this point is being held on a $1 million bond."
