The idea was that if women carried things in their pockets, it would be extra weight
on their frame. Of course, no woman wants extra weight on them.

Besides - women (historically) didn’t have much to carry.

If you look at women’s fashion historically, you will notice that it leans on the notion
that the most “fashionable” clothing isn’t “functional”...and this is because the most
“fashionable” women are women who don’t have to be functional. In layman’s terms:
High Fashion is mainly for people (women) who don’t have to work.
