:lupe:Does it have something to do with Islam?

And for those that say it’s unislamic :
* The Shafi’i school considers female circumcision to be wajib (obligatory).
* The Hanbali school considers female circumcision to be makrumah (honorable) and strongly encouraged, to obligatory.
* The Maliki school considers female circumcision to be sunnah (optional) and preferred.
* The Hanafi school considers female circumcision to be sunnah (preferred).
Why I won’t shut up about Islam

:patrice: "nothing to do with islam" huh?

Circumcision in Africa has been practiced before Islam. It is an African initiation rite. It's how African children become part of their tribe. There are multiple reasons why Africans circumcise and Islam has very little to do with it. They have been cutting the genitals.

Africans are very syncretic when it comes to religion, I wouldn't consider circumcision in Africa to be Islamic. Islam does not even authorize females to be cut but doesn't exactly speak against it either.

Muslim males are cut because Muhammad himself was cut. For women it is not a requirement.

What the brother is talking about is this passage...

A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina [Madîna]. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to her: 'Do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband.'–Sunan Abu Dawûd,Book 41, #5251.

And many African female circumcisions go beyond that, (for the sake of appearance or male sexual pleasure or chasity).

Read the link I provided. Female circumcision is not an Islamic practice (it is condoned in Islam as long as it does not prevent the woman from experiencing sexual pleasure), it predates Islam and has more to do with initiation into the tribe.

Female genital mutilation (FGM) or (FGC) is practised in 30 countries in western, eastern, and north-eastern Africa,[5] in parts of the Middle East[6][7] and Asia,[8][9] and within some immigrant communities in Europe, North America and Australia.[5][10] The WHO defines the practice as "all procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons."[11]

According to a 2013 UNICEF report covering 29 countries in Africa and the Middle East, Egypt has the region's highest total number of women that have undergone FGM (27.2 million), while Somaliahas the highest percentage (prevalence) of FGM (98%).[3]

The world's first known campaign against FGM took place in Egypt already in the 1920s,[3] but FGM prevalence in Egypt in 1995 was still at least as high as Somalia's 2013 world record (98%), despite dropping significantly since then among young women.[12]

nobody is saying some isolated African tribes dont do it..But by and large ALL Black sub saharan Governments have banned it and have NGOs and State resources dealing with it..and they have shown alot of improvement

Muslims Governments on the other hand wont even let the UN in to determine the size of the problem..Most Muslim governments have refused to Ban or organize any eradication

The point isn't that Muslims don't do it, the point is that it is not an Islamic practice. It is a tribal practice.

I even don't know what you are arguing about. It is a simple question and it's a relatively simple answer.

Female circumcision is most prevalent in Africa. What difference does it make that they banned it and other Middle Eastern countries didn't? It goes by tribes and ethnicities and sexual beliefs, it's not a Muslim practice. India doesn't even do it, so I don't know why you bring up India.

It's not in the Quran whatsoever as a command for women to be cut. Muslims will tell you this. fukking NGOs will tell you this, but you still arguing that it has something to do with Islam...when it really doesn't.

Is FGM required by certain religions?
No religion promotes or condones FGM. Still, more than half of girls and women in four out of 14 countries where data is available saw FGM as a religious requirement. And although FGM is often perceived as being connected to Islam, perhaps because it is practiced among many Muslim groups, not all Islamic groups practice FGM, and many non-Islamic groups do, including some Christians, Ethiopian Jews, and followers of certain traditional African religions.

FGM is thus a cultural rather than a religious practice. In fact, many religious leaders have denounced it.

Female Circumcision Is Becoming More Popular in Malaysia | VICE | United States
Note that Malaysia does female circumcision just like we do male circumcision here in the USA....in a hospital, and it's one little knick. (Maylasia are one of the most advanced countries in the world BTW.) But in Malaysia, public hospitals are not allowed to do the procedure. And also, they say they been doing it before Islam.

Just like Africans say they been doing it before Islam.

Human beings have ritualistically cutting themselves since the beginning of time.

All I am telling the OP is why Africans practice female circumcision, you wanna turn it into "a Muslims do it because they are Muslim" thing and then point to other tribal people in other parts of the world doing it as if it means something significant and it doesn't.

What are you arguing about?
