A Rikers Island correction officer who said she had fallen in love with an inmate, was charged on Sunday with raping him and conspiring to traffic marijuana into the jail for her caged lovebird.
The probationary correction officer, Nicole Bartley, who was stationed at the George R. Vierno Center jail, said the inmate duped her into a romantic relationship and persuaded her to bring him marijuana, according to the criminal complaint.
Correction Officer Nicole Bartley was arrested and booked on a slew of charges that include rape and promoting prison contraband.

Her transgressions were discovered Gunner, a drug sniffing Department of Investigations dog who was stationed at her facility’s front, alerted authorities to her. She is 26th corrections staffer to be arrested since the department launched its probe to uncover corruption at the jail in 2014, DOI Commissioner Mark Peters said in a statement released on Sunday.
Bartley, 30, told investigators the inmate — who cannot legally consent to sex because he is a prisoner — “played me for a fool.”
“I, Nicole, being a fool had my guard down to this man I thought (I) was falling in love with,” she said, according to the criminal complaint.
She admitted that she slept with the inmate and later agreed pick up some marijuana for him, according to the complaint.

“I was in love with him. He used me and played me for a fool. I had sex with him on one occasion in the jail a few days before Jan. 30,” she said.
“I used a condom. It was in the closet in the morning when everyone else was locked in. It only lasted five minutes.”

Bartley was arrested on Saturday after investigators found her in her Bronx home with about 70 grams of marijuana, which she said was intended for her prison-bound paramour, Peters said.
She was released on $1,000 bail and faces up to four years in prison for the third-degree rape charge.
Despite the admissions cited in the criminal complaint, a woman who identified herself only as Bartley’s aunt said she couldn’t believe the allegations.
“Probably fabricated by an inmate or someone,” the woman said.
“It’s ridiculous. That’s very far fetched,” she said.
The woman said her niece was a “kind person. She has a kind heart.”
Bartley will be suspended, Peters said. She started working for the Department of Corrections in May 2014 and earns $39,755 base pay, he said.
