Courtney B. Stewart, 24, is charged with two counts of taking indecent liberties while in a supervisory role, both felonies. Police say the Huguenot High School teacher had a sexual relationship with an underage male student.
Police detectives are investigating whether there may be additional victims.
A Richmond City Schools spokesperson refused to give details.
"We are unable to provide any details as this is a personnel matter that is now being handled by the Richmond Police Department," said Cletisha Lovelace.
"We want to reassure our families that Richmond Public Schools takes these allegations very seriously," said Lovelace. "Incidents of this nature are a direct violation of our district policies and appropriate action will be taken upon a thorough investigation."
