enerbahce's team bus was attacked on the highway during a trip to the airport following an away match Saturday,
according to Turkish outlet Hurriyet. Shots were fired, and the driver of the bus had to be rushed to a medical facility after being seriously injured.
Fenerbahce were coming back from playing Rizespor in the far northeastern part of Turkey. The team was taking a bus from Rize to Trabzon -- about an hour's drive -- to catch a flight back to Istanbul. The attack occurred about halfway to the airport, in Araklı. A gunman fired into the bus, striking the driver, and passengers had to help prevent the vehicle from losing control. They were eventually able to stop the bus safely before police and medical staff arrived.
Police had to stop traffic on the highway and bring vehicles to escort the Fenerbahce players and staff to the airport. No injuries, other than to the bus driver, are currently being reported.
