Lilo & Stitch Memorializes Capt. Pete Mitchell & IMF Team Leader Ethan Hunt: Memorial Day Weekend Box Office Results (May 23-26)
Fun fact: The original
Lilo & Stitch released in 2002 on the same weekend as Tom Cruise's
Minority Report (my personal favorite Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg movie).
Minority Report ended up opening at number 1 with
$35.6M, juuussst edging out Lilo & Stitch's
$35.2M. It took 23 years, but
Lilo & Stitch has had its revenge against Tom.
As this site is want to do from time to time, it has seen fit to delet my entire post, which was extremely detailed with all of the records broken by Lilo & Stitch. Suffice to say, I'm not retyping all that shyt.
So let's just say that
Lilo & Stitch's $183M is the best Memorial Day opening, retiring
Top Gun: Maverick's $160.5M. And its
$145.5M 3-day opening is the third best opening for a Disney live action remake. It's still not the best opening this year l, though. That honor goes to
A Minecraft Movie's $162.7M. Incredibly,
Lilo & Stitch passed
Snow White's $87.2M total after its second day when it had amassed
$102.5M.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning made
$77.5M. That's the 17th best Memorial Day opening and beats
Mission: Impossible ll's $70.8M. Its
$64M 3-day is the best opening in the
Mission: Impossible franchise. It's 4-day total has it pacing ahead of
Dead Reckoning's 5-day
$78.4M. This franchise has these openings down to a science.

That's great to hear, considering that the movie costs upwards of
$400M. Fortunately for Paramount, they're only on the hook for half of that.
I had to cancel my tickets for today cuz of the family cookout. They were for the IMAX experience. Fortunately, it's locked up the IMAX screens for 3 weeks, which is what Oppenheimer did 2 years ago, so I'll catch it later. Maybe I'll run to the theater like Ethan.
Oh, and
Final Destination: Bloodlines has made
$94.1M which is the best in franchise history. It's also the second highest grossing horror movie of the year, doubling up
Nosferatu's $47.4M.
With
$174M,
Thunderbolts* is the MCU'S fourth lowest grossing movie. It's ahead of
Eternals' $164.8M and behind
Captain America: The First Avenger's $176.6M. However, after their first 25 days, it still trails
Brave New World's $177.2M total.
And
Sinners became the 11th highest grossing R-rated movie of all time with
$258.8M, which passed
The Hangover Part ll's $254.4M. It's also the 3rd highest grossing horror movie. It trails only
IT's $328.8M and
Jaws' $273.6M.
