I don't think she's blackballed or anything, it's just that she REALLY doesn't like the spotlight. She just makes her music and leaves it at that. No need to feed the hype machine or the music media with more details than needed.

Yea, the album is great. Very stripped down feel compared to the more orchestrated Jon Brion production of the past. That makes the vocals sound even more strained and emotional, giving them quite the demo feel indeed. It feels like a stripped down, honest record.

Don't bother with Extraordinary Machine, it'll just make you angry. This album is damn fantastic, though. I listened through her discography a few days ago, and I think it's her best album by a fair margin.
Now hold up
Download the Jon Brion demos of Extraordinary Machine. Even though they've been disowned by both Brion and Apple they're a fair bit better than the Elizondo sessions, even if the sound quality isn't stunning.
