Jordan was the most popular athlete but the Cowboys were the most popular team.

Wearing Jordan's doesn't mean you were a fan of the Bulls. Most Bulls apparel you would see was really Jordan apparel. You would see all types of Cowboys stuff. Folks would be rocking Jay Novacek and Daryl Johnston jerseys proudly.

Think about that, back in the 90s people not only knew the stars of the Cowboys but they knew the TE, fullback, and linemen. Folks knew everything there was to know about the Cowboys. How many people can name offensive linemen for football teams from 30 years ago. Why should anyone know who the starting center and guards were for any team that isn't their own???

1995 NBA finals saw a 43% slip without the Bulls
1994 Super Bowl had higher ratings than 1993 game when Dallas was there

Should it be framed as they dropped because the Bulls weren’t there or because MJ wasn’t?

Bulls ratings fell in 93-94 without MJ even though they were still one of the top teams, and surged back up once he came back

Bulls and I don't even see how this is debatable.

You can't separate the player from the team, that's ridiculous. He wasn't playing 1 on 1. People tuned into Bulls games to see Jordan. Way more eyeballs on the Bulls anyway given that they were always playing the nationally televised games multiple times a month. Unless you lived in Dallas area or near a team in the NFC East, you might at most see 5 Cowboy games a year.

People didn’t know Ron Harper, Scottie pippen, Horace grant, Steve Kerr, Luc longley, Tony kukoc, etc?

Even bill wennington had a McDonald’s burger named after him.

People didn’t know everything about Jerry Krause and Phil Jackson?
People didn’t wear Dennis Rodman Jerseys?

Cowboys and Bulls were pure 1990s teams because they won all their championships in the 1990s. After their last SB title in 1996, the cowboys became irrevelant. As of now, They still haven’t even made the NFC title game since that year. As soon as :mjlit: retired, and rodman/pippen traded to other teams, the bulls became trash after 1999. Between 1999 and 2025, They sucked aside a few seasons. Only legitimate star they had in the last 25 years was injury prone Derrick rose.

Yankees run of contention actually extended all the way to 2009. They were as much an early 2000s squad as a mid to late 1990s one. Their core(jeter, Bernie Williams, posada, Rivera, pettitte) won in both decades.

You're the only one lol. It was crazy how Jordan retired in 98 and you couldn't find a Bulls fan in 99. But they will tell you that fans following players is a "new" thing

For real :russ:

I remember that spring on the playground cats were flipping to the Pacers, Knicks, Jazz, Heat, Lakers, Spurs, and Wizards

They all moved to Kobe/shaq lakers bandwagon by 1999-2000

Once they got Phil it was a wrap lol but I was rooting for them in the playoffs too :manny:
