Wild, crazy, but overall great year.

9/11

Nas vs. ROC

State Prop vs. D Block

Jay Z and Fab dropping on 9/11

Nas dropping Stillmatic

Kanye's big break as a producer

Busta came through with Dre and Neptunes bangers

Timbaland beats everywhere ("Is That Your Chick", "Get Ur Freak On", "Raise Up", "Ugly")

T.I. dropped his debut album

Juvenile went back to Cash Money

Puff became P. Diddy and Bad Boy had a solid year. "Let's Get It" was everywhere

Foxy Brown came back

Dirty from Alabama dropped their debut

Project Pat dropped Mista Don't Play

mainstream-wise, it was a weak year by old school standards.
if you werent in on the mixtape game at this point, then you were assed out.

this was basically the year where everything started going downhill.
viacom bought up all the video channels and got rid of the box.
independent radio GONE. all radio is under two umbrellas.
radio/video basically transformed into a game of follow-the-leader, with the leader usually being mediocre.
almost all of the small labels were about gone and everything was beginning to fall under two conglomerates.

nobody EVER wants to talk about this stuff.

2001 was one of the goat years in music r&b And rap
