I remember even John Henrik Clarke went in on the color purple in one of his lectures(couldn't find the video again) stating there was so much productive activity in the African American community at that time that could have been depicted. Her choosing to pen such a negative portrait of the black family was essentially a waste

The big issue for me is that I was to young to be aware of all the forces at play(in terms of feminism) and ideas that were being pushed out there around that time.
As a kid you think ...just another movie. Is it funny

I look at a lot of the movies or books I read as a kid now and I'm m amazed how some of this shyt got the push it did.
