Matthew Thomas, the five star outside linebacker who chose Florida State over USC and Georgia on national signing day, will reportedly remain committed to the Seminoles.

Thomas issued a statement to Warchant.com confirming his commitment to play for Florida State in 2013. Thomas previously indicated his intentions to play elsewhere, and his father told ESPN that his son would rather play at Southern California. According to Thomas, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher was able to convince the five-star linebacker to stay.

"After meeting with coach [Jimbo] Fisher and his staff and gathering all the information, I have decided to honor my commitment to Florida State," Thomas said in a statement. "I also want to be close to my family and I want to be part of what they are building at Florida State. I'm looking forward to winning games at Florida State and building towards my future."

Thomas first told the Miami Herald that he had been reconsidering his national signing day decision in May. He told the paper that he did not want to commit when the day arrived, but chose Florida State in order to please his mother. He said it was "nothing personal," but indicated that he wanted to play elsewhere.

Former Florida State athletic director Randy Spetman said last month that Thomas would not be released from his national letter of intent without a "compelling reason," and the Florida State coaches would get a chance to address the linebacker in person before any decisions were made.

Thomas, the No. 8 player in the nation according to 247 Composite Rankings, has the opportunity to make an immediate impact anywhere he plays. His athleticism should fit well in the multiple scheme of defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, and Seminole fans should be thrilled that the star linebacker has (reportedly) decided to stick with Florida State.

Don't sign on the dotted line saying you will play for the school if you want to leave 3 months later.

no ones saying its a fair rule. but its the rule, and its widely known by virtually everyone who knows the spot.

but its ok if coaches do that :usure:

Coaches dont abide by that :mjpls:

If every player decides they don't like where they signed 3 months later, the letter of intent wouldn't be worth anything. There is no need for national signing day, the real national signing day would be the day we see players report for summer/fall camp because that would be the point we know they are actually staying.

It doesn't bind you for your entire college career, so I don't see the legal issue with not letting them out of the contract just because they did not like it 3 months later unless the school mutually agrees.

If he wanted to be a Trojan he should have signed with them in Feb. He's had 2 years to make a decision. He wanted the ESPN spotlight on signing day, but didnt take his officials till almost mid January. Matthew Thomas is nothing more than a :troll: Headcases like him rarely make the impact they could otherwise.

Once he saw FSU's spring game, and looked at the talent at LB plus the '14 kids they've picked up. He simply got spooked...

Worry less about Mommy and more about what's best for your future. No sympathy.
