Toronto: Flying Lotus, Eddie Alcazar Team for Brainfeeder Films

Multihyphenate artist Flying Lotus is partnering with filmmaker Eddie Alcazar on Brainfeeder Films, now officially formalized as an independent film finance and production company aimed at developing and supporting creative content.

“Eddie and I started Brainfeeder Films with the intention to produce and support influential and experimental entertainment for film and music fans around the world,” Flying Lotus said. “I’ve always wanted Brainfeeder to be a home for emerging artists, creative talent, and filmmakers who are looking to work outside the traditional studio and independent distribution systems.”

The new company’s first feature project, “KUSO,” directed by Flying Lotus and produced by Alcazar, is an experimental film tracking the aftermath stories of the survivors of a massive earthquake. The pic is currently lensing in Los Angeles.

Brainfeeder is currently shepherding new projects for British animation artists Dominic Hailstone and David Firth (creator of U.K. flash animation series phenom “Salad Fingers”); it produced Firth’s recently completed short “Cream,” about a unusual, revolutionary new product.

Flying Lotus made his directorial debut with the short “Royal,” which premiered at Sundance Next in L.A. in August. He produced by soundtrack for Alcazer’s short “F*****youu,” which had its world premiere at Sundance Next in 2015, and has screened at AFI, Sundance, and Fantastic Fest.
