Michael Irvin equates Tony Romo’s pressure to LeBron’s | ProFootballTalk

Alper passed along the words of Roger Staubach earlier this morning, saying he doesn’t understand all the criticism of Cowboys QB Tony Romo.

Another former Cowboys star, however, said Romo’s feeling more pressure than ever.

During an interview at a charity event in Las Vegas, Michael Irvin illustrated just what kind of pressure a Cowboys quarterback is truly under, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News, saying Romo’s next under the national microscope.

“Now LeBron’s got the title, who do we turn the thing to and say, ‘When are you going to get one?’” Irvin said, before answering his own question.

“That noose has been put around [Romo’s] neck,” Irvin said. “It better be soon. Jerry Jones has already said that. That’s where it’s going from here. It’s going back to Tony Romo now.”

Granted, Irvin makes a living by saying things. And when you deal in volume, sometimes silly things slip out.

The pressure on LeBron James came from the fact he put it on himself with the ill-conceived and poorly executed “Decision”, and the not insignificant fact he’s one of the five best players in the NBA.

Romo’s not even one of the five best quarterbacks in the NFL, and doesn’t go out of his way to create his own celebrity. There’s obviously pressure on him, but equating him to James makes little sense.

Cowboys really are on their own shyt.

Does anyone really expect Romo to perform? :rudy:

Romo is like LeBron in the sense where ya'll come up with dumb ass remarks like the above, when their numbers say something completely different. Look at his 4th Q completion % and tell me if you expect him to perform :rudy:

Not huge football fan like that. If its not my team, Im not lookin at the stats like that. Its just that every time I watch this dude play he's doing something stupid or giving up an untimely interception.

Completion percentage ain't the whole story though. The man has a history of playing fantastic and making a CRUCIAL mistake when y'all least need it. He's this generation's Brett Favre. You know that's the truth and he got passes for it when TO and Wade were there. I think Michael is saying there's REALLY no excuses. Jerry and the front office made it as easy as they possibly can for the guy. The Cowboys got more talent than they know what to do with.

do you seriously believe that? Romo always tanks when the pressure is on, that is a career long trait, funny revisionist history, Romo is so overrated and a bum

he's one of the worst QBs out there

- good when he can sit in the pocket
- cant win games when it counts
- throws way too many passes into double coverage
- constantly makes mental mistakes

I would say Romo has cost the cowboys 15-20 games over the course of his career

need proof/facts, sure why not:

1) Fumble and Interception against the JETS after leading by 14 in the 4th.

Romo= first half plays great / second half plays horrible and chokes
