"His 2-seam splitter has great velocity and it really keeps the hitter off-balance."

"His curve ball is a potent knee buckler."

"He's become more patient at the plate. He waits on HIS pitch."

"He's a pull hitter to right field. The shift is on."

I rather hear people talk about golf.

Baseball commentators who work for the major networks really don't know much about the game.
And the few that do (like former players) lack the ability to relay the interesting details and mechanics of the game in a way that the casual fan can understand.

Al Leiter and Tim McCarver actually DO know a lot about the game. And Leiter has, occasionally, made some great comments about pitching and catching during some games.
But they really sound boring and complicated to a lot of people who don't know or haven't played baseball at any advanced level.

Also, they're both not really likable.

Think of it this way...

John Madden knows the game of football probably better than any football announcer in the last 40 years.
And he's known for saying "Boom" and Thanksgiving Day turkey legs and all that.

But if Madden took the time during games to speak about blocking schemes, defensive audibles and the 20 different ways to run a power sweep...he'd have been out of a job before halftime.

As far as commentators go,

I like boxing and hockey.

The guys doing hockey...they're saying things that I process like 3 seconds later. I don't know how they can relay the game so quickly.

Boxing commentary is ass these days especially the PBP announcers they make up events as the fight goes on. I fukks with Paulie Malignaggi with the analysis though

Baseball is such a slow paced game that I think they need to say some weird facts just to pass the time between pitches.
