The best ruler the C.A.R. has ever had. Sad but true. As bad as he was the leaders the C.A.R. has had before and since Bokassa have been way worse.

Long live Emperor Bokassa...?

Africa has had legit crazy people as heads of state. Him and Macias Nguema were 34th degree of masonry type evil.

Macias Nguema(Equatorial Guinea) actually makes Bokassa seem tamer. There is a common childhood experience that links the two and might have shaped them to be the mad men they were.
"There is no other god other than Macias Nguema" was actually the national motto.New level of dictatorship unlocked.Stalin who?

Def not from a human rights and overall freedom aspect.

@mbewane - Perhaps but am I lying? All of C.A.R.'s heads of state have been either atrocious, ineffectual, corrupt, tyrannical etc.
@Secure Da Bag - Pretty much.

Even those that ousted the Emperor came to (partially) regret what happened after.

He was just as corrupt, ineffectual and tyrannical as them. Pretty sure Dacko and Kolingba have much less blood on their hands than Bokassa too. Looking back kindly on Bokassa has more to do with the will to have a "strong man" in power and remains of post-colonization enthousiasm than with his actual successes, as well as good old nostalgia for the era before the Franc CFA devaluation that really did the country in and the resurgence of tensions between regional groups that mostly came in the 1990s. He had some good ideas and realizations but not nearly enough to outweigh the rest. His coronation alone cost like 25 % of the country's GDP :francis:
