Watching the Race Against Time doc on this now. It's not an easy watch but worth the reminders.

The most obvious question: have the people down there have prepared themselves any better since?
Other then strengthening the levees

Not a lot different has been done but then again you can’t really prepare for something like that to happen to that extent

How do you figure this?
:francis:I’m from New Orleans moved recently though

Like I said the Levee system around the city has been strengthened but overall the city can’t take another Katrina

The police department is already low on man power as it is

Infrastructure is terrible

The pumping system is still just as bad during a regular thunderstorm

Yes more people might try to get out but the city is still fukked if another storm like that happens

They admit at the end of the doc that even though they poured a ton of money into reinforcing it, they did not account for global warming in which they're predicting the sea level to rise higher than four feet by 2070 :snoop:

:francis:What fukks me up about Katrina is that there's a bunch of demonic shyt that was hidden within them waters. From cacs murking folks for fun, rapes, and plain neglect of human beings. Hell, there were folks that lost their whole identity because the city was underwater that the paper were destroyed.

There used to be this lady that lived in the homeless shelter I used to live in, that lost all of her information from birth certificate to social security information. She also was suffering from dementia so that was a doozy trying to help her with adjusting, especially getting out of prison.

I see what you mean. There's no way to prevent the water from doing it's thing.

The other things are what I'm getting at: being better informed, better planning for evac routes, better EDC/EDD, vigilanteism, local political incompentence, all the things you know to expect.

You can absolutely prepare for those.

I have to take breaks in between the eps. I use the time to take notes. If I watched these all the way through I wouldn't process things properly...it's easy to just pinball back and forth from sadness to anger otherwise.

I imagine there had to be a ton of crime and illegal shyt thst got covered up by it. Serial killers getting passes, people taking on new identities, murders under wraps
