I like that he's not focusing on just the abortion part, but also the long-term ramifications of that. He's interested in childcare and such.

Nothing about abortion was stopping paid leave or maternity healthcare, job training or housing.

Dumbass trying to predict the backlash

Wasn't stopping it directly, but an argument could have been made that abortion was an out from not getting long maternity leave like in other countries. Now, if you cannot get an abortion, there's a stronger argument to be made for long term maternity leave.

I do agree that these lawmakers probably don't care long-term, but it's good to see someone who does.

Maybe... But Republicans ultimate goal is to dethrone federalism as much as possible. Social safety nets are the exact opposite of that. Not to mention, many are social darwinists. You're poor because you're weak and don't work hard enough and therefore the hardships you experience are a natural result of your inferiority. This underlines all their thinking.

I agree . I'm just saying that it's good to see someone pro-life who is thinking beyond just the abortion part of this whole thing.

This is why i have been very pessimistic that the decision changes anything, by august after this fades what Americans will be thinking of are high gas prices, inflation, cost of goods going up etc There are alot of folks like watson out there who aren't particularly vocal but you can be damn sure are voting in the midterms for republicans

How do not see how that makes zero sense.

Fiscal Republicans oppose federal leave on monetary reasons. Having more kids out there makes it more expensive. You aren’t getting their votes.

Religious Republicans aren’t making this argument on the ease of maternity. The kids being born already need to be taken care of… so why would a few extra babies suddenly change their minds?

I know. That's not what I'm saying though. What I'm saying is, an argument can be made that if one cannot have an abortion then they definitely need to have long maternity leave.

Been Watson is religious and he is wanting that. All I'm pointing out is that it's good to see someone who isn't just stopping at the pregnancy step.
