Shawne Merriman was down in New Orleans last week for Wrestlemania XXX to check out all the different WWE festivities taking place. He may have been mixing pleasure with business, however, as today it was announced that he’s “joining the WWE family.”

He’s reportedly in Orlando, FL right now training at the WWE Performance Center to prep for what could be a lengthy wrestling career. If anything, Merriman will look to follow in the footsteps of The Rock, who was a University of Miami defensive end before switching to wrestling. Merriman, who was a star pass rusher for the San Diego Chargers during his peak before his career was undone by injuries, undoubtedly has the athleticism to pull off a wrestling career.

Merriman’s been involved with WWE as far back as 2008, when he hit Chavo Guerrero with a kendo stick at the WWE One Night Stand. At Wrestlemania this past weekend, he was a special panelist on WrestleMania Today.

Rey Mysterio hinted at the news during Wrestlemania, posting this Instagram with the hashtag #futurewwesuperstar.

This is a dumb idea if they go thru with it

We seen how lame it was to have NFL players on the roster in WCW

Flyin Brian and Goldberg were the only exceptions

I have no problem with Shawne wanting to be a wrestler...

But Breh, the football field is a pillow compared to the 2020. :troll: I haven't been trained, but I heard stories where the first day you HAVE to slam yourself at least 100 times on the 2020. For someone who hasn't done that, they get winded fast and sore. Then they say :smugfavre: "Can I just be a manager?" :why:

I thought he had a terrible tryout at the performance center... Guess the money from having a legit athlete on the roster is bigger than that though.

They gonna have to bring him up right away and hope learns quickly.

I don't think Merriman will be a star but two say those are the only two who "made it" is flat out stupid

If we're including college football players that never got to the league, add Roman Reigns and Jack Swagger to that list. :ehh:

I was impressed w/ his analysis on the WM pre-show. He fit right in up there with Booker T and Foley.
