DALLAS (KTVT/CNN) - A former Texas A&M football player is in custody after police say he stabbed a jogger to death in Dallas.

Authorities say Thomas Johnson confessed to using a "large-edged weapon" to kill the jogger on White Rock Creek Trail.

Johnson was a wide receiver for Texas A&M in 2012, and caught three passes in the team's upset of the No. 1 Alabama that season.

But Johnson mysteriously vanished days after the Alabama game.

He resurfaced, but never played football again.

"Everybody was proud of him, but you can tell after he lost everything, his whole life changed. He just went down," one person said.

"Given the situation, I think I'll just turn around and go home," a biker said.

Authorities say Johnson will be charged with murder.
