A former high school teacher accused of having sexual relationships with three of her students took a plea deal Wednesday, crying as she accepted the agreement in court.
One of the boys was 16 and two were 17 when they were having sex with Brianne Altice, 35. One testified that he considered her to be his girlfriend during their yearlong sexual relationship.
But the boys were all minors, and Utah law also says a person cannot consent to sex if the other person is in a position of special trust. Altice, who taught high school English, pleaded guilty to three counts of forcible sexual abuse in exchange for prosecutors dropping 11 other counts, including several first-degree felonies.

A former Utah high school teacher who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing three students sobbed before a judge, saying she was in a "very vulnerable time," before he sentenced her to two to 30 years in prison.
Brianne Altice, 36, who prosecutors say had sex with the 16- and 17-year-olds at her Salt Lake City-area school, wept before the judge and her victims' parents Thursday to little, if any, sympathy.
"I am human, and I messed up during a very vulnerable time in my life," the disgraced woman told the court.
One of the victims' mothers, whose son was 16 when linked to the ex-English teacher, snapped back that her son was also vulnerable.
"You hurt my son in ways that you will never know. You hurt all of those boys," she told her.
Altice had argued that the boys heavily pursued her while teaching at Davis High School in Kaysville.
Prosecutors didn't deny that the boys flirted with her, but said it was her job to end it.
"She enjoyed the positive attention she was getting from them, but I think she failed to recognize that she was the adult, and this wasn't positive attention," Attorney Cristina Ortega said.

Judge Thomas Kay criticized her defense, saying that she was the adult and should have acted better.

Altice is seen at an earlier court hearing. The once married mother's behavior was gossiped about for sometime at her school.
The former English teacher sobbed before the judge and her victims' parents, saying she was in a 'very vulnerable time' when she pursued the teens for sex.

That was a remark that was echoed by the judge.
"You were the adult, you were the teacher, you were the one that could have stopped that from happening," Judge Thomas Kay told her.
Altice's dramatic fall from being a married mother and teacher to a convicted sexual predator was far from something that happened overnight.
Her months-long sexual relationship with one of the teens led him to thinking of her as his girlfriend, he testified in January.
Her flirtatious behavior was also apparently gossiped about around the school for some time and even became a running joke of, "Who is Ms. Altice sleeping with now?"
Two of the boys' parents have sued the school district, accusing them of having known of her behavior and doing nothing to stop it.
