A Washington Nationals TV analyst and former Major League Baseball player has been charged with assault and battery after an altercation at his home in Fairfax County early Sunday, police said.
Ray Knight, 64, was arrested after a fight with a 33-year-old male acquaintance that sent him and the man to the hospital with injuries, including what Knight said was a bite to his hand that required stitches.
Police responded to the residence in the 7500 block of Ashby Lane in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County about 4 a.m. for a reported fight, police said. Both men had visible injuries, and Knight was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery, police said. The other man was not charged.
Knight, whose full name is Charles Ray Knight, said the fight occurred after four people arrived at the house he rents, including the male acquaintance, whom he declined to identify. Knight said he was asleep but awoke and got into an argument with the man that quickly escalated to blows. Knight and police declined to say what sparked the argument.
“Two grown men were acting like immature men,” Knight said. “I hate that it transpired. I hope it gets worked out in a fair and equitable way.”
