Aw, poor stupid conservatives, the Sons of the Serpent are an old group. Their first appearance in comics was in 1966.

Cap has been replaced (willingly and unwilling) by the government at several points in time:
William Nashland
Jeffrey Mace
John Walker
James Buchanan Barnes
Sam Wilson

There was the first black Captain America:

Isaiah Bradley

Then there the miscellaneous Captains (folks who just took up the mantle):
William Burnside (He was going to be the Captain however, the Korean War ended)
Bob Russo
"Scar" Turpin
Roscoe Simons

Yep. Then later after Steve Rogers (original white Captain America) dies at the end of the Civil War arc, Frank Castle takes his shield during the comotion... deciding its too important to let Tony Starks and S.H.I.E.L.D get it.

Frank Castle is "The Punisher" ...but inspired by Steve Rogers he decides that the people that assassinated Cap need to be punished... so Cap can be avenged. :lupe:
Then the next time you see him he is wearing this:whoo:a combination of his own and Captain America's uniform.

and he has spraypainted the shield black.

This.

Don't get me wrong....it's funny to see racist cacs freak out whenever one of their beloved white characters go black....but it's depressing to think the only way we can have popular black fictional characters is to get a black person to play a popular originally-white character

I'll take that cheesy Meteor Man movie over a Superman movie with a black Clark Kent any day. At least Robert Townsend's movie/character was somewhat original

EDIT: I see Static Shock was also mentioned.....they could do some GREAT shyt with that in a movie if they tried.....

That's literally what comics has ALWAYS done. What do you think characters like She Hulk, Bat Woman, Bat Girl, Super Girl, Super Boy, etc....Are?

Mostly all successful characters are spin offs of other successful characters.

Neck ties and boxing gloves.
As someone mentioned before, Steve Rogers always fought against white supremacy.

Not to mention his liberal influenced fight against the Superhuman Registration Act during Civil War.

I think they're just what you said they are....spinoffs. DIRECT spinoffs.

The problem with the ones you listed is......people associate She Hulk directly with The Hulk. People associate Bat Girl directly with Batman. As a result, even though those characters might gain some amount of popularity/success in their own right, that's still not the same as if they were the original. She Hulk wouldn't be a bigger franchise than The Hulk....

We need a black version of Hulk/Batman, as in an original popular franchise that actually started with that black superhero.

Static is a good example. Now I'm sure someone could probably dig up a white comic superhero with powers similar to his, that predates him. Maybe Static was even loosely based on that character by the creator; that's fine to me as long as as the original character wasn't literally a white Static with a similar name, powers, costume, etc., and who was already a popular character before him....
