tick throws and frame traps are apart of high level play in street fighter.

Frame traps are a way to get your opponent to hit a button when you have a way of stuffing their button.

A tick throw is when you hit a quick normal that the opponent blocks and then you throw them right away. It's something you need to quickly react to as a defender.

If you go for a tick throw early in the match, your opponent will be looking for the tick throw and be ready to tech it. A frame trap is a way of hitting the opponent who tries to tech the throw and leads into a combo for big damage.

An example, I do standing light punch and the opponent blocks, then walk forward and throw right after the light punch. I do this a couple of times in the match.

Then, I do standing light punch and the opponent blocks. The opponent knows so far that I always go for a tick throw at this point. They want to tech the throw.

My jab leaves me with 2 frames of advantage, meaning they can't do anything for 2 frames before I can. If I then do a move that comes out in 6 frames, there's a 4 frame gap between when the block of the standing light punch ends and my move begins. It's enough of a gap for the opponent to hit lp+lk to tech the throw, but my 6 frame move hits before their throw does.
