Above the fray.
Thanks

These modern dudes sound like idiots by saying "Run DMC didnt know what they were doing" and "they should have demanded 5% of the company".

Too old to be saying stupid shyt like that, and not acknowledging that they were early pioneers in hip hop corporate deals. Sound like Rich Paul's dumb ass.

Jay got song production credits on some of the RUN DMC albums. Including the monster, Raising Hell, so not exactly like he had empty pockets.

I never believed that Jay's alleged turn to moving drugs was because he was broke.
Between the run he had with JMJ acts, and RUN DMC's career getting multiple revivals and new fans since their heyday, Jay touched plenty of legal money during his career. They were on a break from a rock tour of Aerosmith when he was murdered.

I don't know where I read it or how true it is, but I read years ago that Jam Master Jay wasn't a part of Run DMC's early recording contract with Profile.

He wasn't... A lot of DJ's got fukked in this way, just like Spinderella

Artists would have the DJ all over the album, but just pay them a set prices for their cuts or show performances.. The actual rappers were the signed artists

Fredro mentions that in the vid., and I believe it.
But, what I'm saying is that "he went to the streets because he needed money" doesnt add up to me.

RUN DMC were a legacy rap act before we even knew what that term meant. With a bunch of different fan bases. They had rock fans here, had international fans, and would be rediscovered every few years because of some remix of their work.
