Tupac Shakur arrested in Johnson City

Tupac A. Shakur was arrested Saturday in Johnson City after pulling a knife on police, according to a news release.
The 40-year-old Elizabethton man was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, simple possession of methamphetamine and having unlawful drug paraphernalia.
About 5:40 p.m., police were called to 2215 E Unaka Ave. about Shakur, who had warrants out for his arrest from the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. As they arrived, police saw a vehicle leaving with Shakur inside.

The vehicle was later found at 1908 E. Unaka Ave., where Shakur was seated in the passenger seat. Police tried to placed him in custody, and he pulled away reaching at his waistband. He tried to turn toward officers with a knife in his hand before they took him to the ground. He was subdued after a brief struggle.
Policed said Shakur had a syringe and multiple baggies of methamphetamine.
Shakur, 576 Broad St., Elizabethton, was held in the Washington County Detention Center under $18,000 bond awaiting a Sessions Court appearance set for Monday.
His full name, Tupac Amaru Shakur, is identical to that of the late rapper.
