Yes, I would throw him in there. This is a damn series.
Everybody is going to step up or change through a damn series.
No, they're not and it's patently ridiculous to even suggest so.
Players show you who they are, and no matter how many times they get out on the floor they don't step up, especially as it concerns marginal NBA players like Jaxson Hayes. When has he ever been a meaningful contributor on a playoff team? When has he ever shown the ability to do be anything other than an energy big who can catch the odd lob? He has no discernable offensive skill, yet you're trying to tell me he was going to step up if he got more minutes.
He played in Game 4, and do you know what he did in the 4 mintues he played?
He got two quick fouls and a tech.
He played in Game 1, and do you know what he did in the 9 minutes he played?
He missed his only two field goal attempts and got a defensive 3-sec violation.
He played in Game 3, and do you know what he did in the 9 minutes he played?
He got 5 fouls and only 1 rebound.
At this point, he had proven not only was he a complete non-factor, but a detriment to the team. After going down 1-3 with him playing like this, why the hell should they have played him again in the elimination game? He was going to give them more of the same thing he had shown in the previous games. Why are you speaking like he would've turned into prime Dwight Howard?
If he had played in Game 5, the Lakers would've undoubtedly still have lost, if not by more than they already did. Or do you think that they would've won that game off the back of his contributions, and then he would've miraculously did the same in Game 6 and 7 to help the Lakers win the series?
On that topic of you believing everyone steps up or changes throughout the course of a series, peep this -
Gabe and Vando played a combined 65 minutes over Games 4 and 5 and they scored 2 points between them. I want you to marinate on that. Two bench players who played 65 minutes over the last two games could only score 2 points between them. I want you to digest that.
Does that sound like they stepped up to you?
Was RUI being RUI in game 1-3? fukk no. He stepped up.
Rui was fine in Game 2, he made the majority of his open scoring opportunities, so I'm not entirely sure why you're using him as an example. He played well in 3 out of the 5 games; Hayes couldn't even play well in the limited minutes he got, at any point.
Furthermore, Rui is an integral part of their rotation, averaging 32 minutes during the season, so he was playing, regardless. They need him primarily because of his floor spacing and size. You can't just use him as an example as if every player is going to do the same. It doesn't work like that. I just told you that Gabe and Vando shyt the bed in the final two games.
Hayes wouldn't make the rotation of any other playoff squad, so why are you so convinced that after playing badly in all the other games, he was just suddenly going to provide impactful play?
