I think that’s a political answer and the real reason is Alex Len kinda left Indiana hanging to go the Lakers. And the Lakers didn’t want any future buyout candidates thinking they wouldn’t hold up their end of the deal.

It's not that. It's the current culture of our franchise. How many times did Kobe's career did we have a hyped up top team and fukking lose early? Even in the late 90s with the Jazz/Spurs, it wasn't the first round and Kobe was a teenager.

When we got Pau we got right to it. Finals, rings, etc. Even the 2004 team got to the Finals.

Dwight is the only example and it's not even a guy Kobe particularly wanted. And even then, Kobe got hurt before the playoffs.
