Release Date: July 12, 2013
Genre: Drama
Director: Ryan Coogler
Writer: Ryan Coogler
Starring: Michael B. Jordan, Octavia Spencer, Melonie Diaz
Studio: The Weinstein Company

Plot: This is the true story of Oscar, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident who wakes up on the morning of December 31, 2008 and feels something in the air. Not sure what it is, he takes it as a sign to get a head start on his resolutions: being a better son to his mother, whose birthday falls on New Year's Eve, being a better partner to his girlfriend, who he hasn't been completely honest with as of late, and being a better father to T, their beautiful 4 year old daughter. He starts out well, but as the day goes on, he realizes that change is not going to come easy. He crosses paths with friends, family, and strangers, each exchange showing us that there is much more to Oscar than meets the eye. But it would be his final encounter of the day, with police officers at the Fruitvale BART station that would shake the Bay Area to its very core, and cause the entire nation to be witnesses to the story of Oscar Grant.

Saw this trailer in the theater today, looks like a must see. At first I thought dude was Nick Cannon and was thinking that would ruin the movie, thankfully it isn't.

Also using The Roots "Now or Never" was a great choice

The Yay
as one of the protesters against the pigs during the Oscar Grant protests,

I honestly dont like the premise of the whole 'feeling something in the air and new resolutions' thing....
to me it seems like its artificially making us more sympathetic. fukk that, the tragedy is already tragic. dont need to make up shyt.

maybe Im wrong so Ill be happy to be wrong. but the whole thing is Oscar Grant is just Oscar Grant, an everyday black man falling victim to cop brutality.

to me, the fact that anyone could be in his shoes is far more scary and tragic than make-believe resolutions and 'building up the good only to set up tragic death' type of thing.

and the thing is, it shouldnt matter whether he was a bum or a rich man, someone with dreams or without them. whether he was doing bad or good deeds, decided to change his life or just living a routine day...

yeah, i feel the same way.

i've heard from some folks that have seen it already that that's one of their main complaints. the screenplay goes out of its way to perceive him as a saint, when it honestly shouldn't matter because regardless of his past character he was a victim plain and simple and we shouldn't need any notions of him being a choir boy to see how horrible a crime was perpetrated against him.
