it should be case by case basis. there are plenty of cases where employees come into a company and gain access to proprietary skills or processes and deliberately take them (like literally download files etc) and take them and form another company or take them to another company. in that instance a non-compete allows some protection and allows business to actually hire people knowing their ideas are somewhat protected

This makes sense in most fields but highly specialized fields need non-competes.

A good example is train conductor. The training cost like 80,000 bucks and takes like a year to be certified. You have to protect the employer in this situation since there is no degree for train conductor.

But most fields that people can learn in college should not be protected by non-competes.

Imagine training at NASA to be an astranaut for like 8 years, then the second you graduate, work for spacex.

it's workers sign non compete paperwork to get hired. :heh:

This won't hurt workers. it will just encourage business to offer more competitive wages to retain their employee's instead of the threat of legal action like they do now. Whoever wrote this article is obviously a shill for big corps. But they afford it, instead of giving that CEO a 10 million dollar raise, they can use that to pay their workers.
