If it was Don Rickles instead of Rich who laughed, it wouldn’t have been a problem. George Carlin would’ve laughed WITH Rich, and then finished the story, Berle felt some type of way already, just like most low key jealous comedians felt about Rich during his reign.

Berle must have been an a$$hole because I remember other awkward live incidents with him. But in this case, I think he said "pick your spots" as in, know when to turn it off and on.
