G Dep is truly a unique emcee. No other Harlem emcee can come close to his rhymes, song writing and unique sense of flow and delivery. No other Harlem emcee has an album as classic and as great as Child of The Ghetto.

Anytime you can make a wack song like this hot just with one verse, you're in a league of your own:

This type of song writing takes real talent:

He even held his own alongside Rakim and G Rap! :wow:

Cam'ron can be nice as an emcee when he wants too but dude is too inconsistent. G Dep's verse on this is better than Cam'ron's on "I Really Mean It":

Of course but Big L was a much better "mixtape" artist (before the term was actually popular) and freestyler than he was as an actual emcee and artist. Big L's odds and ins or mixtape songs and freestyles were better than his actual albums (if you count his posthumously released album too).

His Lifestylez Ov Da Poor wasn't all that. Don't get me wrong, dude was dope nice lyrically but nothing about dude on an album really made him stand out. Big L couldn't write a song like G Dep's "Everyday" and be great at BOTH the IMAGERY and lyrics. He could come with the lyrics but it takes a special emcee and artist to add that imagery. But I have a lot of respect for Big L, that cat was a great lyricist.

Now this is just one of my favorite verses from him. The fact that he came on the mic and spit something so great after Redman had already spit a great verse is just amazing:

i don't know where you get this mixtape shyt from, it's not like cats were dropping mixtapes back in the mid to late 90s like they do these days. i don't know where you get this new found reverence for G Dep but he is nothing compared to L & Cam or even Immortal Technique

That's why I said in quotations "mixtape" BEFORE the term "mixtape artist" was even popular. I wasn't saying he was actually releasing mixtapes like a lot of cats do today, I just mean his style and approach to songs were a lot like that. He was a punchline rapper.

The fact is G Dep can do songs like "Everyday" whereas Big L couldn't. Cam'ron has that "D Rugs" track but he's not as nice with it as G Dep is.

And Immortal Technique? :what::snoop:

Big L, Cam'ron or Immortal Technique have NEVER released an album as great as Child of The Ghetto.
