The SNES online troll thread that turned into the XBAND discussion, as well as me mentioning the Sega VMU from Dreamcast made me think of this.

The early online PC online server systems like dwango, Kali, and even BATTLE.NET were well ahead of their time and definitely laid the ground for xbox and psn...

As in, what we're being introduced to now is ahead of its time, you're suggesting?
It was introduced last gen with the PS3, but it wasn't really advertised or used by many. Now with the Vita and PS4 it's much more practical, and I just see it improving even more over time.

SEGA will pretty much own this thread on the console side. They were consistently ahead of the curve, but lost customers due to them dropping support way too early.

SEGA is the GOAT innovator, but no one will ever give them props. People too busy dikkriding graphics and too close minded to try new franchises that are :out there" in terms of imagination.
