the paternal Grandmother is the De facto head of the extended family..she decides who her sons will marry,how the family will be organised and she wants grandsons not granddaughters

i admit its kind of odd that a matriarchal society can be so hostile to female infants but alot of it has to do with wealth,inheritance and dowry..females represent an economic risk to their families
