My understanding is that the Saudis are flooding market with oil in an attempt to hurt Russia. Somehow BHO's assertion that the U.S. is now essentially energy independent factors into this as well. I don't know

Try last year. And it was actually lower than this. At least in Houston. In late 2008 gas dropped from $4.50 to 1.30 in Houston. Oil went from $150 a barrel to $30. Economy was in the shytter though.
