EDIT #1 Also, if trump had governed like the "crazy conservative uncle who will absolutely say some shyt that will make you cringe but is gregarious enough to talk to and drink with ANYONE as long as they have some common interest" a lot of people would've been open to him getting that third/fourth term.

EDIT #2 Republicans/conservatives should be VERY worried. If/when the Dems find their version of Mamdani, a lot of the progress they've made in the last decade or so (courts, rollback of the regulatory state, corporate power etc), could very quickly be erased. I mentioned it in the original mayor thread but what impressed me so much about Mamdani is that he took what AOC has been doing over the last 6 years (building credibility outside of the progressive wing; finding a balance between prioritizing institutional power/being a good Democrat with maintaining progressive bona fides) and condensed it into one election season.

At the end of the day, he's a toddler and he doesn't care if he gets attention for being a dikk or doing something useful as long as he gets attention. But being a dikk is easier, so he goes with that generally.

Yeah, Trump is just a narcissist and loves attention and, on top of that Mamdani apparently made him feel good during their meeting (probably by praising Trump's 2024 campaign emphasis on the high cost of living).

This is just what was available today to make Trump feel good and feel like the center of attention. I expect him to do a 180 on Mamdani within a month (if not much earlier).

I still think it is hilarious how this turned out. It's funny how Trump undercut a lot of the narratives Republicans and establishment Democrats were trying to promote.
