I've started hooping again the last two months. I play mainly against JV and varsity kids ages 15-18 bc they are the ones at the courts everyday.

All these kids use a stepback to shoot jumpers. It appears stepbacks are the equivalent of what crossovers were to my generation.

I want them to shoot stepbacks bc these lil nikkas ain't Harden

Kemba, Curry, and Bron played a role in this as well. If you're comfortable taking a stepback most people really can't guard you:manny:

Above the fray.
Use whatever tools you have to create space to take a shot.

Whether it is crossing someone over like Iverson, backing someone up then shooting a fadeaway like Jordan, or taking a step back like Harden...it is all done to create space.
young dudes whether in iverson era or in harden era are copying what they see rather than incorporating things into their games

Harden uses the step back when the defender is off balance, to move behind the 3 point line

Iverson was barely 6 feet, and the crossover helped create space against bigger defender

dudes at the playground are just practicing what they saw their favorite players do, whether the situation calls for it or not

we try to teach our nephews to play winning basketball, exploit the mistakes of the defense....and leave the clown tactics alone

I agree that it is about emulating their favorite players.

That is probably true. You have a point there.

I would just argue that in terms of results, they all attempt to do the same thing.

But fair enough.

Yea I been hoping lately as well, and truthfully the game is terrible,

* Everybody wanna be steph curry or harden
* lack of fundamentals
* lack of fundamental passing, not fancy passing to "drop" a dime
* big man play ( I'm 6'3 so usually one of the tallest unless playing college players), no rebounding, no will to dominate a guy 5' shorter( I wanna shoot three, lol)
*** biggest thing lack of defense( i didn't jump, i gave you the open shot, you play on this court regularly, etcc...)

The game with the new generations is terrible, mainly blacktop rather then gym but even then, me displaying fundamental footwork and play( I play mixture of Kevin McHale and Reggie Miller, straight post up or shooter, no ball handling :mjlol::russ:) has these kids in awe....:hhh:

stepback threes are not good shots unless you are a high-level player

stepback elbow jumpers are a formidable shot

a jab step creates a lot of space too...and honestly that's a lost art

I teach the young guys to sidestep and line up the jumper instead of just stepping back all the damn time

Prime Melo the GOAT at these shots, hands down

I feel like Kob/MJ when I'm out there

The head fakes and ball shows get them every time

I had a youngin' jump 5 ft out of bounds today off a pump fake today when I was 6 ft from the basket

I then did a jab pump fake jab From the 3 pt line and made a Youngin stumble to the foul line

I give these lil nikkas Dream shakes too

I really want someone to record this sh*t
