he's lighter than their father, but not light skinned
he was lighter in the past, maybe light skinned then but not really now

Was there ever any outrage whatsoever about light-skinned ass Will Smith playing dark-skinned ass Richard Williams?

I'm just asking because I just got in an argument with this Shea Butter ass chick over Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone because she was lighter-skinned, but I don't remember seeing any outrage over Will Smith playing a man with such obvious "African" features like Richard Williams.

Also, do you think would it be tolerable if light-skinned actresses played Serena or Venus Williams?

Or would the world collectively lose it's shyt?

Help a brother win an argument

RICHARD WILLIAMS WOULDNT
HAVE A MOVIE IF WILL SMITH
DIDNT WANT TO PLAY RICHARD WILLIAMS

She's as close to Nina as Will is to Richard.

Will Smith could be biracial and nobody would blink, yet he's playing an obviously dark-skinned (phenotypically) African man and there's ZERO outrage

People forget how subjective acting is.

Sure there may have been some others that looked like him more but can they act like Richard Williams and perform decisively better than Will Smith?

That's why I don't really trip on light skinned people or non-ADOS folks getting roles of historically Black figures. Sure it would be nice for us to get a 1:1 representation but that is very hard to do so you have to find the best actor for the job, or in many cases the best one who is provided the script or goes to the casting calls.

The cacettes were angry that the point of view was the father instead of the daughters. Finessed BW into the same thought.

They hated that it promoted a positive black male image.

Sorry I’m late...but sad to say, there was some Colorist Outrage about this.
...from Useless Person Amanda Seales.

Thing is, she was first to be on the King Richard Outrage Train and it evolved into
(as mentioned in here) “movie shouldn’t have been about him anyway”.
Because as we all know “Patriarchy” trumps “Colorism” in the Opression Power Rankings
from the Female Gaze.

She's obviously Afro-Latino.

She's not White and this is America. she's Black here.

You other motherfukkers opinions don't matter here.

She Black here and the issue was that she was light-skinned playing a dark-skinned woman with "African" features.

And lots of actors of all races use prosthetics to play historic figures.

It's not some out of the way thing that nobody does.
Except black women, especially dark skin black women, are underrepresented in film.

Whereas, white actors are not. So you’re making a disingenuous false comparison.

You have to run this by me again, but outside of not being really dark-skinned, Will Smith is a "phenotypically" African man.

If he had a White parent, nobody would blink.

He doesn't look any Blacker than Lenny Kravitz or Barack Obama
