Bush Jr. was not the brightest bulb in the crayon carton (pun) but he did have a more open border policy and better immigration reform (Reagan) than the current administration. Also small business and minority and home ownership was higher, he also improved federal aid for poorer students to attend college. Of course his foreign policy was problematic, but so is the current.

Eh, George W. Bush has always been a smart guy who plays a "simple" guy on TV. It has always bothered me how people fell for the Fahrenheit 9/11 films, Daily Show segments, and SNL skits that portrayed the guy as a bumbling idiot.

The same can be said for his father. Both are bright, both are well educated, and both have a great understanding of and reverence for constitutional law (as well as an understanding of economics and civil rights issues). Both also understood what it took for them to become president.

For instance...

Who do you think was a better President Bush Sr or Bush Jr?

Also, regarding Bush Jr I read in a book that after he graduated from Harvard Business School he went on 50 job interviews and got no job offers. So, I'm not sure if you can say he is intelligent. Not saying he is stupid though.

Finally, what do you mean by wising up to the game? How can this help me out? Please elaborate man.

I don't have any insight into the Bush Sr. presidency, I was like 6 years old at the time.

In terms of wising up to the game. Not taking mainstream political analysis at face value. Always looking to see who benefits from whatever popular narrative is floating around at the time. Asking more questions, being well read and well educated.

I dont think he's dumb but his decisions were, and we'd probably be running surpluses if it werent for his tax cuts. Arguing he was good on economic issues is practically indefensible considering what happened in 2008. And thats not mentioning his terrible foreign policy which is still fukking this world today.
