George Foreman: Mayweather is better than Muhammad Ali

Floyd Mayweather Jr. thinks he's a better boxer than Muhammad Ali ever was, and he's no longer the only one who holds that belief. According to George Foreman, Mayweather isn't just being boastful, he's telling it how it is.

Earlier this week, Mayweather told Stephen A. Smith that "No one can ever brainwash me to make me believe that Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali was better than me."

Speaking with TMZ on Friday, Foreman agreed with Mayweather. While there's no doubt many will take issue with Foreman's opinion, his belief holds some weight considering he once stepped into the ring with Ali.

"Pound for pound," Foreman said, "Floyd is better than me and Muhammad Ali ever were."

Foreman, who racked up 76 wins and only five losses in his boxing career, believes that Mayweather's competition is better than the foes he and Ali faced during their careers.

"This is a better generation by far," Foreman said. "They're smarter, they're stronger, they're overall just better fighters."

Foreman continued along those same lines, saying that "boxing is on a different level. This is an amazing generation."

Despite his belief that Mayweather is better than Ali, Foreman doesn't think Mayweather will survive Manny Pacquiao next weekend. He's rooting for Mayweather, and he thinks Mayweather is the more talented fighter, but he doesn't see a win in Mayweather's future.

Instead, he envisions Pacquiao winning the early rounds of the fight before holding on for the win.

"Mayweather is the superior talent, but the best guy doesn't always win," Foreman said. "Floyd's going to have his guard down."

Mayweather is a better boxer than Ali from a technical and defensive standpoint. Mayweather is an elite counter puncher on par with Marquez, and arguably better in some respects. Mayweather is an elite defensive fighter with the ability to neutralize the strengths of elite offensive fighters. He is amazingly accurate and has one of the best boxing minds in history. His only pitfalls are offense, combo punching and power. He doesn't like to "stand and fight" and throw combos, which would make him more effective (he used to do this more when he was younger). In these areas Ali is superior. But in everything else Mayweather is better. So I don't think it's far fetched to say Mayweather is better than Ali.

In what way do you disagree?
His argument that fighters are better is absolutely ridiculous. People looking to get into sports are not looking at boxing at all, meaning the talent pool is way smaller when you are talking absolutely great fighters in the states.

Mayweather is an all-time great, but the GOAT? Seriously, do you think the same? :comeon:

It's just an impossible argument already. Both sides have valid points.

People gotta relax, and stop trying to always determine who's better than who. Keyword is "generation" anyway. So, let's just go by that and call it a day.

Saying that Floyd is better than Ali can be debated, but saying that this generation of fighters is better than previous ones is absolutely ridiculous.

"This is a better generation by far," Foreman said.:what:

Better training, better conditioning, better techniques, etc. This goes for other sports like soccer, basketball, football, etc. What Foreman says isn't unbelievable.

Yeah I don't have a problem putting generations on it, but this generation of boxers are NOT better than the past. The sport of boxing has gone way downhill due to its lack of exposure and no guarantees like in the NBA or MLB.

But that doesn't make the fighters better. By that logic the newest generation will always be the best because of the improvements to training etc. If Foreman were fighting today with these new advancements he would be beating the shyt out of theses wack ass heavyweights

New generations having better training doesn't necessarily mean they're better, but it increases the likelihood they are. Can you give me any good counterarguments as to why you think Ali was better than Mayweather? Mayweather is technically better in most aspects than Foremen was.

They should have better conditioning at least with the advances in training technology. They should be superior in every way to the fighters of the past.
I can roll with that, but he is still dead wrong about this generation being "WAY BETTER" though. shyt is not even close, Boxing has fallen way the fukk off with young cats looking at the guaranteed contracts from the major sports.
