Even Former President of the United States, George W. Bush was thrown off by the grand jury's decision not to charge Officer Daniel Pantaleo with the death of Eric Garner, a homicide, saying the decision was "hard to understand." To be fair, Bush could have been talking about literally anything. Terr'rism. Grammar. Arithmetic. You name it.
In an interview with CNN (because only CNN would ask George W. Bush's opinion on the Eric Garner decision)'s Candy Crawley, Bush stated after watching the footage of Pantaleo putting Garner into a chokehold, he thought, 'How sad.' While he hadn't seen all the details, "it's sad that race continues to play such an emotional, divisive part of life."
Apparently after the Missouri grand jury's failure to indict Darren Wilson in the killing of Michael Brown, he and "Condie" (his nickname for former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice) had dinner together, where she explained to him the basics of the impact of not holding police responsible for the killing of black civilians.
"We talked about this subject, and yeah — she just said, you gotta understand that there are a lot of black folks that are incredibly, more and more, distrusting of law enforcement," Bush said. "Which is a shame, because law enforcement's job is to protect everybody."
Jesus H. Macy this dude was the leader of our country for eight years and there are kindergarteners with a better understanding of the reality of law enforcement/race/words in this country. I mean technically, he's really come a long way since that one time when his presidency hinged on the disenfranchisement of black voters. But you know. Not that long a way.
In the same interview, Bush called Clinton his "brother from another mother," but he's sure his actual brother Jeb Bush would definitely defeat his "sister-in-law" Hillary Clinton in a potential 2016 presidential race. God, American politics is weird. Yuck.
